Is it okay to feed snacks and treats?

If regular meals are being fed, spaced out over the day, there is really no need to give extra food as snacks; – the danger is that this unbalances the diet and could lead to obesity.

Occasional healthy treats, like pieces of apple, celery or carrot, or part of a rice cake can be given to older puppies, but a few kibbles (pieces of dry food) of the usual puppy food make very effective rewards for good behaviour. But take care not to overfeed.
